Eco-Friendly Resort Near Dhaka: Comfort That Respects the Forest
The word "eco" is overused in hospitality — it often means a recycling bin in the corner and a request not to use too many towels. At Arshinagar, the eco commitment starts with the building's position inside an existing sal forest and works outward from there.
Starting with location
The most significant environmental decision a resort makes is where to build. Arshinagar was built within the Pajulia sal forest in Gazipur — not by clearing land for a manicured garden, but by positioning structures within existing tree cover and designing around the canopy already there.
The sal forest remained intact as the primary structure. Cottages and rooms sit among the trees. The lake was retained as a natural water feature. This is a more consequential eco commitment than any amenity-level decision that follows it.
The Eco Room
The Eco Room is Arshinagar's explicit low-impact accommodation option. It was designed with minimal material footprint, maximum natural ventilation and a footprint that works with the forest rather than against it. The Eco Room sleeps up to four guests and is the resort's most affordable overnight option — which means that choosing a lower-impact room also happens to be the more accessible price point.
It has split AC (for the Bangladeshi summer this is a practical necessity), a geyser bathroom and Wi-Fi — the same core amenities as other rooms, without the premium materials and finishes of the suite-level options.
What eco-conscious stays look like in practice
Practical things that matter at a forest resort: not playing loud music on the grounds (which affects bird behaviour and the experience of other guests), disposing of waste in the bins provided, staying on the marked walking trails, and not feeding the wildlife. These are small decisions that compound across hundreds of visits per year.
The Forest Dine restaurant incorporates local and seasonal sourcing where available. Complimentary breakfast is served with every overnight stay — food that's grown closer doesn't need to travel as far.
Honest positioning
Arshinagar is not a certified eco-resort and doesn't claim to be. It is a resort in a forest that was built with care for that forest, with one room specifically designed for guests who want the lowest-impact option. For guests who want that, it's genuinely available.
