Forest Resort Near Dhaka: Life Inside Gazipur's Sal Woods
Most resorts near Dhaka have trees in the car park. Arshinagar is different: it was built inside an existing sal forest in Pajulia, Joydebpur, and the forest remained the structure around which the resort was designed.
The Pajulia sal forest
Sal (Shorea robusta) is the dominant tree of the Bhawal forest corridor in Gazipur district — a dense, tall-canopy forest that covers a significant stretch of land north of Dhaka. The Pajulia area sits within this corridor, which means the forest around Arshinagar is not a planted amenity garden. It's the same woodland that has grown here for generations.
The practical effect for a guest: the canopy is continuous overhead, the shade is real on a warm afternoon, the birdsong starts before sunrise and the light through the leaves at golden hour is the thing people take photos of.
How the resort sits inside the forest
Arshinagar's cottages and rooms are positioned within the tree cover rather than in clearings beside it. The SkyView Cottages are named for a reason: their upper-level windows look out into the canopy, not above it. The Emerald Suite's bathtub faces a section of forest, and the Eco Room was designed with minimal environmental footprint in mind from its materials outward.
The resort's lake, the boating facility and the pool are integrated into the grounds, which means the transition from a swim to a forest walk is a three-minute stroll.
Forest walks
Marked walking trails within the resort's grounds let guests move through the sal trees on foot. Morning walks before breakfast are a different experience than anything available in the city — the air quality is measurably better, the temperature is lower under the canopy, and the light at 7:00 AM in a sal forest in winter is specifically, memorably beautiful.
The experiences page covers forest walks alongside boating, fishing and other activities available on the grounds.
Why forest proximity matters for rest
Research on attention restoration and stress recovery consistently finds that environments with natural elements — particularly trees and water — reduce cortisol levels and accelerate mental recovery faster than urban environments. The Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) formalises what most people already know intuitively: time in a forest feels different from time anywhere else.
Arshinagar does not market itself as a wellness resort. But it is a resort in a forest, and the effects of that are what they are.
